Defining your future-state solution

Technical Upgrade

A technical upgrade entails migrating from one IFS version to another by applying IFS upgrade scripts to transform your database. This process ensures a seamless transition to the latest version while preserving your existing data and configurations, with adjustments made for any mandatory changes.

A technical upgrade can be carried out in two ways.

'As-Is' Solution Upgrade – This option mirrors your existing business processes while implementing the mandatory changes needed for IFS Cloud.

Solution Enhancement Upgrade – This option replicates your current business processes while incorporating the mandatory changes required for IFS Cloud. It also allows for some solution enhancements where existing processes are aligned with evolving business needs, though no major data changes are necessary.

Benefits of a technical upgrade

  • Faster delivery

A technical upgrade is the fastest way to transition to IFS Cloud, unlocking access to cutting-edge technologies and ensuring a smooth shift to the latest innovations.

  • Supported Platform

IFS Cloud delivers continuous monthly releases and bi-annual service updates, ensuring your business remains optimised and up-to-date with the latest technology and innovations.

  • Continuity of processes and data

A technical upgrade is carried out through a proven process that transforms your existing database to align with the latest version of IFS Cloud. As a result, historical data is preserved, with changes only necessary for processes and/or CRIM where IFS functionality has evolved.

Choosing the right upgrade path is essential for a smooth transition

Our approach involves conducting an Upgrade Readiness Assessment (URA), which evaluates the key factors outlined below:

  1. Understand Your Business Needs: Define your business goals and challenges. Are you looking for a simple upgrade with minimal disruption, or do you need to optimise and enhance your processes? Knowing your objectives will help determine whether a simple upgrade or a more comprehensive transformation is needed.
  2. Consider the Impact on Data and Customisations: Assess how much historical data and existing customisations are critical to your business. If retaining legacy data is important, a technical upgrade might be the right choice. If you need a fresh start with new configurations, a re-implementation may be necessary.
  3. Involve Key Stakeholders: Engage with internal teams, including functional leads and IT, to get input on which upgrade path best supports your business goals. Their insights into business processes and technology needs will help make an informed decision.
  4. Consult with Experts: Work with experienced consultants, such as those from Arcwide, who can guide you through the process. Their expertise will help you evaluate the best path based on your unique requirements and help ensure a smooth, successful upgrade.

By following these steps, you can choose the right upgrade path to IFS Cloud that aligns with your business needs, minimises disruption, and maximises the value of your IFS investment.
